Will Nicholas, Tesla’s Government Relations Manager spoke to the Westport Electric Car Club at the club’s meeting yesterday, April 14, which took place at the Dragone Classic Cars showroom, 176 Post Road West, Westport, CT 06880.
Mr. Nicholas discussed Tesla’s efforts to extend its direct sales business model into Connecticut. Connecticut is one of the states that currently does not permit this, but there have been recent developments in the legislature to craft a bill that would change this.
Mr. Nicholas brought with him a Tesla Model X vehicle of which the first deliveries began at the end of 2015, and which by March was the second highest volume EV seller after Tesla’s other vehicle, the Model S (source: InsideEVs.com). He also spoke about the Model 3, the company’s newly unveiled $35,000 EV that for which there are already over 250,000 pre-orders (source: Tesla) for a car that will be begin rolling off the production line in late 2017.
The club discussed the planning of its upcoming events, specifically its fourth annual EV Road Rally on May 1 and its participation in the Town of Westport’s Green Day EV event on May 14.
Prior to the event, Mr. Nicholas commented, “I look forward to speaking to this group of knowledgeable and politically involved EV enthusiasts, many of whom are already Tesla owners...There is a lot happening at Tesla in terms of vehicle development, the Gigafactory battery initiative and our efforts to expand distribution.”
Club President, Leo Cirino said, “We are delighted to have Tesla come to speak to our club and our guests about the latest from Tesla. The Model S and Roadster have been a mainstay of our EV Road Rallies and there will be a Model X in the upcoming rally on May 1.”
